Fragrances...

Perfume trails takes us away to the borders of civilization. The history of perfume is a reflection of humanity, a means of exchange, a protection against disease, a potion with divine virtues communicating its sense of commerce and medicine of the sacred and sensual. Perfume is thousands of years old - the word "perfume" comes from the Latin per fume "through smoke". One of the oldest uses of perfumes comes through burning of incense and aromatic herbs in religious services

Our senses are quick to respond to noble or foul smell. Smell is often our first response to stimuli. It alerts us to fire before we see flames. It makes us recoil before we taste rotten food. Neurological research in forefront are still exploring… What makes a seemingly rudimentary sense so tantalizing?

The association of fragrance and emotion is not an invention of poets or perfume-makers. Our olfactory receptors are directly connected to the part of the brain, which is thought to be the seat of emotion. Thus, by the time we correctly name a particular scent as, the scent has already activated triggering more deep-seated emotional responses. Although there is convincing evidence that pleasant fragrances can improve our mood and sense of well-being.

High-tech sniffers may be used not just for breath-smelling but also to detect other subtle changes in body odor that can indicate disease conditions. Our unique personal body-odor may also become an alternative form of identification. Because of differences in body chemistry, temperature, and body odors, no perfume will smell exactly the same on any two people.

Prophet Mohammed wrote, "Perfumes are foods that reawaken the spirit."

Using perfume to heal, make people feel good, improve relationships between the sexes are new frontiers being explored by the industry. The sense of smell is considered a right brain activity, which rules emotions, memory, and creativity. Aromatherapy advocates smelling oils fragrances cure physical and emotional problems.

Next time you get attracted to a noble smell do take few extra seconds in enjoying it to the core……..
